National Curriculum Information Sessions
Supporting Leaders to Implement the Refreshed Curriculum

The refreshed curriculum marks an important step for education in Aotearoa New Zealand. 

To support schools and kura with implementation, the Ministry of Education is hosting a series of regional curriculum engagement workshops for education leaders between September and November. 

These workshops have been designed specifically for leaders and will provide practical guidance on understanding curriculum changes, planning implementation, and supporting staff through change. 

This is an opportunity to: 

• Hear directly from curriculum experts. 
• Gain clarity on curriculum expectations and timelines. 
• Understand what support, resources and professional learning opportunities are available. 
• Connect with other leaders in your region. 
• Ask questions and discuss implementation challenges. 
• Explore practical next steps for your school or kura. 

Most importantly, we do not expect schools and kura to have everything in place from day one. These sessions are designed to help leaders prioritise, plan and take a manageable, staged approach to implementation.

• Confidence to make staffing, curriculum and timetabling decisions over the next 12-18 months.

Workshop Content 
Across the workshops, we'll cover: 

Te Mātaiaho | New Zealand Curriculum 

• Te Mātaiaho 
• Science 
• Social Sciences 

Te Marautanga o Aotearoa 
Dedicated sessions for tumuaki and kaiako of kura and Māori-medium settings delivering Te Marautanga o Aotearoa.

Remaining Learning Areas (Years 9-10) 
Dedicated sessions for leaders responsible for Years 9-10, covering the learning areas becoming mandatory from 2027. 

Two Workshop Formats 
To provide flexibility for leaders, most regions will offer two workshop formats. The content is the same, but delivered in a different order. 

Importantly, every region offers both a New Zealand Curriculum (NZC) session and a Te Marautanga o Aotearoa (TMoA) session, either in the morning or afternoon. 

The Te Marautanga o Aotearoa session and the Remaining Learning Areas session run at the same time. Participants may attend one or the other. 

Workshop Locations 
Leaders are welcome to attend the workshop location that best meets their needs.
